Labyrinth Workshop Since the dawn of human history, people have walked labyrinths as a way to increase their awareness, reduce their stress and enhance their connect to Earth and Spirit. Ancient Celtic labyrinths can be found from Ireland to Crete, from Ravenna, Italy to Native American sacred sites. Early man used the magic of the labyrinth and now you can, too. What could possibly be the secret embedded in walking in a curvy path on a simple patch of earth? While most of us are familiar with breathing meditation, done while sitting or standing, a walking meditation such as that practiced in the labyrinth offers a uniquely transformative experience. The Buddha said that walking meditation is the most effective and most lasting form of meditation. ![]() The labyrinth offers a level, flat, organized path to walk so the brain need not think about where it’s headed. The openness of the labyrinth allows for full sensory awareness in every direction, again liberating the conscious mind from thoughts of safety or security. In the womb-line, circular pattern of the labyrinth, the walker is enfolded in Mother Nature’s loving arms – safe, open, free. The respite refreshes and opens door to awareness and mindfulness. The intuition taps into the Collective Unconscious / God Energy / Infinite Intelligence and allows new thoughts, realizations and ideas to enter, unencumbered by the usual screening device of negativity spewed by the conscious mind. Research has proven that walking a labyrinth has long-lasting physiological and psychological benefits:
